Hosting Virtual Events

Since 2020, the CME office has fully supported the use of virtual activities for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  In addition to live conferences, the office provides enduring activities through the Department of Medical Education at Henry Ford Providence Southfield.

What kind of virtual events are there?

Currently we offer both live and enduring virtual events.  Live event operate using conferencing software such as Zoom(r) or Google Meet.  Participants can interact with the host.  Some of these live conferences are converted to Enduring events.  Recordings are placed in "the cloud" and participants can view then receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

How do I go about creating a virtual event?

As with all CME activities, the first step is completing a CME application and being approved to offer AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Once all materials are received the event can take place.  Live virtual events work in a similar fashion to in-person. The learner participates in the activity, then a session key is provided. The participant then logs into the activity on CME tracker and collects the appropriate credit.

Enduring activity will require a recording be provided to the CME coordinator.  The recording will be uploaded on the cloud, an entry made into the On-Demand calendar.  Participants will register for the course, then receive instructions on receiving credit immediately post completion.  Pretests and posttest are possible, but will require planning with the Simulation and Education Center at least one month prior to course start.

Is there assistance available for planning virtual events?

Yes!  Planning assistance is available for both live and enduring virtual AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Please contact the CME office for further details.
